Favorite referencing style

I have yet to develop a preference for a particular referencing style. I do appreciate that we have a variety of styles available, depending on the type of document, and that they are really all about consistency.

Why I became an editor

Once, while giving suggestions to a student regarding a doctoral project, she suddenly said, “You are really good at this!” Her comment really got me, and I later realized that editing, a great mix of science and art, allows me to be of help to others while taking a deep dive into a particular subject.

Background and experience

My professional editing experience began as a research assistant with the Veteran Affairs REAP and involved archiving historical journal publications and proofreading manuscripts prior to submission. I have clinical experience in otolaryngological, educational, non-profit, and birth and pediatric hospital settings as a member of interdisciplinary teams that included developmental pediatrics, speech language pathology, occupational and physical therapy, psychology, counseling, and oncology.

Why I love proofreading and editing

Proofreading allows me to follow a natural inclination. I love tidying the page and making it work best for the author’s needs. I particularly enjoy proofreading and editing anything on biological sciences, education, healthcare, and the intersection of these subjects with theological and religious studies.

Favorite book:

I love the ancient “Book of Ruth.” The author is not named, but the four chapters contain so many themes, such as crisis, oppression, loyalty, beneficence, love, ancestry, sovereignty, and redemption.

Hobbies:

I am usually taking care of my family and our small farm, reading, volunteering in children's ministry, and, when I can, planning trips to visit friends!

Editing tips:

Without trying to mold the document to my preferences, I try to bring it to where the author intends. And I make it a goal to keep the intended audience in mind throughout the process.
