Favorite referencing style

My favorite referencing style is Harvard because I find it clean and succinct, but APA is a strong second!

Why I became an editor

My love of writing and communication led me to pursue a second master's degree in gender studies. I became an editor upon recommendation from a professor and mentor who showed me that I didn’t have to choose between my passions. I just created my niche! I have always been a writer, and I love the power of words. Proofreading lets me exercise my perfectionism, explore different styles of writing, learn new things, and help people communicate effectively.

Background and experience

As a communications officer, I was responsible for news articles, website content, reports, and social media in collaboration with academic, civil society, government, and other stakeholder groups. As an independent gender consultant, I performed assessments of community-based constraints for women’s empowerment through agroforestry projects. I also worked as an ESL teacher, a content coordinator, and the head of proofreading for a college newspaper.

Why I love proofreading and editing

I love that every piece of writing is unique. As a proofreader, I am kept on my toes to deliver the best results possible. Plus, there's always something new to learn. I find this combination really engaging!

10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World by Elif Shafak is my favorite book.

Hobbies:

When I'm not proofreading, I'm most likely playing roller derby, walking my dogs, or getting lost in a book.

Editing tips:

I like to skim read random paragraphs of the document to get a feel for the author's voice. This helps me to understand the structure and avoid getting lost in the content while proofreading.
